Spirit of MK is highly praised

A MILTON Keynes company that reached £2.3million turnover in its first year from a standing start has entered this year’s business excellence awards.

National Locums is a medical recruitment agency based in Milton Keynes Business Centre, Foxhunter Drive, Linford Wood, and is going for the title of Business of the Year in the £1-£5million category.

The company is owned by brothers David and Glenn Cook and their wives Jenny and Natalie. It also employs other members of the family.

David Cook said: “The business’s growth owes much to its location in the new city, renowned for its ‘can-do’ culture.”

Although National Locums has entered the £1-£5million category, sponsored by Mirus IT, in the Milton Keynes and North Bucks Chamber of Commerce-organised awards, in a few years it may not be eligible. Turnover rose by 20 per cent in the second year and rapid growth is possible next year.

Mr Cook said: “Further rapid growth is anticipated and planned for when National Locums will be able to register for the National Framework in 2012 thereby making its services available to all British hospitals.”

The agency, which recently won coveted ISO 9001 certification for service quality, has expertise in the temporary placement of doctors in anaesthetics, psychiatry, accident and emergency, surgery and medicine.

Mr Cook added: “National Locums is an example of excellence and represents all that is good about business in Milton Keynes and having such a good story to tell, entering the Chamber of Commerce Awards seemed the obvious course of action.”
