Are your children safe on the internet?
The Webber Independent School recognised Safer Internet Day 2012 on Tuesday with a live ICT demonstration and internet safety workshop for children, parents and grandparents.
The theme centred on ‘connecting generations and educating each other’, where users young and old were encouraged to discover the digital world and work together to stay safe online. The workshops enabled tech savvy youngsters to teach their elders how to use new technologies, while grandparents were able to draw on life experience and advise younger generations on how to stay safe online.
Safer Internet Day (SID) is organised by Insafe in February of each year to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially amongst children and young people across the world.
Principal, Sue Vig said: “In today’s society our offline and online worlds are connected more than ever before, from families communicating via webcam with relatives and friends abroad to children doing their homework online. Internet Safety Day is a great initiative, it may only take place once a year, but e-safety is a year round issue that permeates the whole of the curriculum and school life. We all have a role to play in ensuring that every child is safe online.”
