A community project in Milton Keynes has been helped by a pizza company to develop disabled access and refurbish a 40 foot concrete square.

Papa Johns, which has a £5million pizza dough plant and quality control centre in Northfield Drive as well as a number of franchise outlets in the new city, has backed the Make a Difference (MaD) social enterprise project at the Buszy, in Elder Gate.

Denise Davis-Boreham, chief executive of MaD said: “We run four disability youth groups each week, for around 90 disabled people aged between eight and 25. We needed to raise funds to refurbish the disabled access and create an outdoor space which was suitable for activities in all weathers.

“Our current funds are devoted to delivering our regular programme of activities and so we can’t say how grateful we are for Papa John’s help and support on this important project and how it will enhance the lives and experience of all the young people who use the Buszy.”

Dave Galvin, UK franchise sales manager, Papa John’s said: “The Buszy needed our help to develop disabled access and refurbish a 40 foot concrete square known as the beach hut. We have provided funds, staff and sponsorship from our suppliers to develop the required access and refurbish the area. In addition, we were able to donate £1,000 to the project for on-going work.

“It is great to be able to give something back to the local community that has supported the company over the years. We were also delighted that the mayor councillor Catriona Morris, gave up her time to join us at the grand opening ceremony.”

Papa Johns recently celebrated the opening of its 200th UK store.
