Artists are gearing up for an annual event in April which will allow them to show off their talents.

Woburn ARTBEAT is an annual project now in its third year, promoting high quality contemporary artists with over 800 artworks and 80 pieces of sculpture. 115 artists have been carefully selected to feature throughout the village of Woburn from April 6 to 27 and exhibit in the gardens of Woburn Abbey from April 6 to August 31, to fund projects in local schools and sponsor a talented artist for a year of study.

Woburn Abbey houses one of the most important private collections of sculpture, porcelain, furniture and over 250 paintings by artists including Gainsborough, Reynolds, Van Dyck and Cuyp.

There has long been a strong association with the art world. Today the present Duke and Duchess continue this historic patronage by opening up the Abbey Gardens in support of the ARTBEAT project.

With over 70 pieces of sculpture by 28 sculptors, carefully selected and placed around the Abbey Gardens visitors will have to opportunity to experience work by established bronze sculptors like Maurice Blik (PPRBS, FRSA), Kate Denton (ARBS) and well known equine sculptor Philip Blacker.

Large scale abstract sculptures in cast aluminium by Jonathan Clarke will transform the traditional setting within the gardens. Wonderful stone sculptures by Peter Randall-Page (FRBS), Nicolas Moreton (ARBS) and William Peers among others, will add a creative and interactive opportunity for visitors to experience sculpture.

Creative director Johann Bester of Bedford Street Gallery, Woburn, said: “With the support of Woburn Abbey alongside our sponsors thecentre:mk and Kimbells Freeth at Woburn ARTBEAT this year we are really excited and confident to create a truly unique and exciting experience for our visitors to enjoy, learn, interact and experience art and sculpture, in such a beautiful setting.”
