FIVE volunteers from The Cat’s Whiskers community on Facebook spent a day helping out at HULA animal rescue sanctuary on Monday.
They met the newest feline residents and helped revamp a cat pen and tidy the store room.
Katherine Maling, HULA’s animal welfare team leader, said: “The day was a great success and we hope to see everyone again soon,”
The Cats Whiskers page is run by Whiskas cat food, which plans to organise other volunteer days.
HULA, based at Glebe Farm in Aspley Guise, takes in unwanted cats, dogs and other small animals. It has a resident community of ponies, geese, pigs and even cows.
HULA organises regular events for the public and is busy planning a Spring Open Day featuring a Bunny Bonanza for Sunday, March 10.
Anybody wishing to help can contact the charity on 01908 584000 or view www.hularescue.org
A spokesman for Whiskas said details of future volunteer days could be found on www.facebook.com/WhiskasUK
But the cat food giants declined to donate some cans to the Citizen’s Citikat appeal to feed unwanted local cats.
