The Mayor of Milton Keynes has raised the bar for future Mayor’s to come by attending 400 community events - and there’s still two months of her term to go.

Catrona Morris notched up her 400th official appearance as the Mayor last Thursday, visiting an art exhibition by Inter-Action in Peartree Bridge.

And with Councillor Brian White set to take over in May, Mrs Morris says she doesn’t expect many to beat her feat.

“It’s not something I set out to achieve,” she said. “I don’t know where I’m going to be from one week to the next, so it can get a bit hectic at times.

“Being the Mayor really opens your eyes to what is going on behind the scenes in Milton Keynes.

“There are so many different organisations, groups and people doing such wonderful things for their communities that don’t get the praise they deserve. And as Mayor, I’ve been able to see a little part of that.”

Mrs Morris will hand over the title to Mr White in May, but already has around 60 arrangements to attend between now and then, meaning she is likely to fall agonisingly short of an astonishing 500 appearances.

“It is a shame I probably won’t get to 500, but don’t think many people will try and break that record,” she joked.

“It can be pretty tiring. The most I’ve done in a day is eight. That came on a Saturday when the Dons were away so it meant I could get to a few more events during the afternoon.

“But I’m looking forward to spending a bit more time with my family – they’ll probably be wanting their wife and mum back by now.

“I had to miss Mother’s Day because I was visiting several engagements, so we had to do all of that on Saturday night instead.”
