Pupils help the next generation with maternity bed donation
PUPILS from Shenley Brook End School have helped to raise more than £6,000 this year to buy beds in Milton Keynes Hospital’s maternity ward.
For the last year events have been organised to raise money for the new equipment and this year they have reached a total of £6,300.
Laura Davis, the lead teacher for the student council, said “When the school was approached to raise money towards a new maternity bed, the students wanted to do even more, and insisted we aim to buy a whole bed ourselves, not just make a contribution.
“A year later, after a lot of hard work, and also lots of fun from the events that included non-uniform days, a cookie eating contest, sponge the teacher and even a teacher sumo wrestling match, they made it”.
Glen Martin, headteacher, said “The hard work and dedication of the students is fantastic to see. They did all the hard work, and I hope that future generations in Milton Keynes have a safe and comfortable arrival thanks to their efforts”.
Three of the leading students from the school council, Elise Elsworth, Ross Holohan and Charlotte Wright helped present the cheque.
Milton Keynes Hospital sees nearly 4,000 babies born there each year, and it was a happy return for Laura and some of the students as they had been born at the hospital themselves.
Carolyn Rooth, consultant midwife, received the cheque on behalf of the hospital and thanked the school’s students for all their efforts.
