Work to start on new Rose ‘soon’

Building work on the MK Rose memorial should start in December, a breakfast meeting was told today (Wednesday).
The £1.2million project for the pond at the city centre end of Campbell Park in Milton Keynes will see granite pillars inscribed with commemorative dates.
About 30 of the 100 or so pillars will be left blank for future generations to add dates important to them.
Gavin Anderson, of the Cenotaph Trust, told a meeting at The Parks Trust in Campbell Park Pavilion that the structures would be guaranteed for 120 years.
He said: “We will break ground in December and in the summer we will have it built.”
The date for the first ground work has not yet been set but Mr Anderson said the subjects of the first set of columns would also be revealed.
Armistice Day is already marked by a column at the site, a stone’s throw from John Lewis store at thecentre:mk. Suggestions for some of the others include one for the foundation of Milton Keynes on January 23 and Holocaust Day also at the end of January.
The Rose has been designed by artist Gordon Young and Mr Anderson added it would be a place for “commemoration and celebration.”
The Cenotaph Trust, which has a fundraising website at http://localgiving.com/charity/mkrose, is also asking for corporate sponsorship of areas including a circular dome water feature.
