Lightning endure penalty shot loss

MILTON kEYNES Lightning endured the agony of their first penalty shoot out defeat on Saturday after fighting back from going 6-3 behind with less than a quarter of an hour to go.
Hat-trick hero Greg Randall levelled the scores at 6-6 with just 42 seconds to go to send the game into five minutes of overtime at Planet Ice.
That failed to settle the game so it was down to penalty shots to decide the winner – the loser still gaining one league point.
Jets' Joe Ciccarello saw his shot saved as did Toni Alasaarela. Steve Moria netted for the visitors before Gary Clarke had his effort blocked. Les Millie then clinched the win for Jets.
It could have been so different had Lightning not squandered a 2-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game.
Alasaarela fired the hosts in front after Ales Parez shot was only parried after 1m 15s while Jets failed to clear the puck under pressure while shorthanded and Randall pounced for his first at 3m 42s.
But then two defensive lapses allowed Jets to level – Michael Bowman scoring on the powerplay at 8m 50s and Les Millie getting the first of his three on 11m 12s.
Jets bagged three more unanswered goals – Millie one in each of the second and third periods and Moria on 45m 58s to go 6-3 in front before Lightning hit back with a Randall powerplay goal and an Adam Radmall blueliner before Randall's late equaliser.
On Sunday Lightning came from 4-1 down at Wightlink Raiders to win 5-4 with second period goals from Clarke and Kurt Irvine and two from Alasaarela in the third session – Randall having got the visitors' first on 4m 1s.
Raiders scored first through Andy Robinson with Danny Hughes and Juraj Rusic (two) accounting for the others.
