MILTON Keynes Lightning ice hockey team said goodbye to two long-serving stalwarts at the annual awards night at Jurys Inn Hotel on Friday.

Finnish defenceman Mikko Skinnari, with Lightning since their formation six years ago, is leaving to move to near Krakow, Poland, with his girlfriend while medic Pete Nolan is retiring after 17 years' association with ice hockey in the city.

Pete, who was previously associated with the former Milton Keynes Kings team, plans to spend more time with his young family.

He was presented with a framed replica shirt by supporters club chairman, Dave Bunyan, and social secretary, Richard Wilmot, after player coach Nick Poole paid tribute to his long years of service.

Team manager Vito Rausa thanked Mikko Skinnari for his contribution and said he will be missed.

Mikko shared the supporters club player of the year award with Gary Clarke who was unable to attend the event as he was in Austria with the Great Britain team.

Clarke again picked up the top points scorer prize together with the most valuable player award in his first year as captain.

Most improved player award went to Adam Carr who was announced as the first returnee for the 2008-2009 season. The Durham-born 23-year-old also won the coach's award.

Players' player of the year was netminder Barry Hollyhead. He also received the best defensive player accolade.
