Dead Set Disorder

Dead Set Disorder

JANUARY is a dreary, bleary month, isn’t it?

It’s ages until payday, you face the annual battles with New Year resolutions (battles that you seldom win) and woe-some weather.

There are glimmers of light though, thanks to some of the new city’s noise bringers.

C’mon, dust off the glum side, and go indulge in this week’s gigs...

MOST EXCELLENT MUSIC are in play this Friday evening, presenting Rebound with a tasty bash of Techno, House, Tribal and Wonk Tronk...

Engage with the ‘unadulterated sound of the techno underground’ over at The Slug & Lettuce between 7pm and 2am.

DJs at the helm will be Paul Neaves, Boskins and Bouffon.

“The Rebound crew have laid down their electronic rhythms all over MK, building up a huge following along the way,” say organisers.

Admission to the Theatre District hub will set you back only a fiver and once tucked inside you’ll be privy to bizarre visuals, projections and flashbacks.

‘Expect the unexpected’ say those who are setting things up.

UNDERPASS Promotions bounce back with a nice new city headliner for you tomorrow night, when Twisted Arcana bring the ‘brutality of British metalcore and apply it to the more melodic roots’ of their sound,’ in case you’ve not previously had the pleasure.

Last month the quintet cut loose a six track EP.

If you are lucky you might be able to get your mitts on a copy at the show, which will also feature Peterborough players In Archives and local-ites Dead Set Disorder: that’s them above, looking as happy as a family which has just had its child benefit cut...

Their sociopolitical sounds are as angry as they are optimistic, making for a nice jagged soundscape.

A certified winner with the punters.

Leftover and Slip of the Tongue make up the rest of the billing

Doors open at 7.30pm and tickets won’t drain too much from those dwindling post-Crimbo finances, at just £4 a hit. Go on, you know you want to.

THE BROADWAY TWISTERS are back in the big smoke this Saturday night, playing at The Lexington on the Pentonville Road.

The Gypsy Hotel event also promises Hula Hoop hotness from Chi Chi Revolver, gypsy vaudeville cabaret courtesy of The Bohemianauts and fiery burlesque from Aurora Galore.

Accordian folk tales are on the agenda with Louisa Jones and Whiskey Moon Face on the stage, and The Damn Jammage will add spice to the proceedings.

If you want to join our raucous rockabilly Twisters at the bourbon-soaked, snake-charmin’ rock ‘n’ roll cabaret, head to www.wegottickets.com and splash £9.99 on yours.

Just how good are these ‘No Ugg boots allowed’ events?

Time Out magazine put it perfectly: ‘If you have 12 hours to live, spend it at the Gypsy Hotel,’ they encourage.

If we’ve not told you enough, call the venue on 0207 837 5371.

Doors open at 8pm, the show starts an hour later and the drinking and dancing runs all the way through to 4am.

It’ll be anything but standard.

Make a move, be royally rewarded.
