Ten male dancers will explode onto the stage at Milton Keynes Theatre on Tuesday evening, fusing athletic contemporary dance moves with the most breathtaking ballet tricks..
That’s right, the BalletBoyz are back in town and this time the testosterone-charged dance company is bringing a thrilling double bill of work by two of the UK’s most in-demand choreographers.
Liam Scarlett’s ‘Serpent’ and Russell Maliphant’s ‘Fallen’ toured earlier this year to capacity audiences and critical acclaim so MK dance fans are in for an electrifying evening of choreography that sorts the men from the boys.
The latest reincarnation of the BalletBoyz features dancers who aspired to the dynamics and technique of the original company while training at some of the most prestigious dance institutions in the world, including the Arts Educational Schools, Elmhurst, Rambert School and Laban.
Talent2013 are set to engage, inspire and entertain – and bring the best that modern dance has to offer to new audiences.
BalletBoyz founders and co-directors Michael Nunn and William (Billy) Trevitt are always looking for ways to develop and refresh their work.
When it comes to casting their dancers, they are after that certain something.
Billy said: “It is very difficult to describe what we look for in a dancer, probably because it is something unexpected and intangible.
“Of course they must have the right physique and technique, they must be versatile and creative and committed, but beyond that we are looking for that certain something that makes it impossible not to watch them.”
The BalletBoyz collaboration with Liam Scarlett and Russell Maliphant sees Michael and Billy working with choreographers who share both their Royal Ballet training (Billy and Michael left The Royal Ballet in 2001 to found BalletBoyz) and their inventive creative techniques.
Future work will see more collaborations with young and exciting choreographers as the duo aim to build on the success BalletBoyz are currently enjoying.
Billy said: “Dance is big news at the moment and, as always, we aim to perform to as many people as possible and show them just what can be done with ten strong, ambitious and talented young male dancers.”
Michael adds: “Milton Keynes is a treat for us on tour.
“The theatre is perfect for dancers and for the audience, and we get the best out of our dancers whenever we perform here.
“Looking forward to it!”
BalletBoyz will perform at 7.30pm at Milton Keynes Theatre.
