Until you look up Cliff Richard’s career, you probably don’t understand the meaning of the word ‘prolific’.
The UKs all-time greatest hit-maker refuses to slow down, and today releases his 100th album - The Fabulous Rock ‘N’ Roll Songbook.
“This is my tribute to the artists who took Rock ‘n’ Roll to the top of the charts. I loved Rock ‘N’ Roll then and I still love it,” Cliff said.
The 15 rock n roll classics include numbers by Little Richard (Rip it Up, which will be Cliff’s 140th single release!), Chuck Berry’s much covered classic Johnny B Goode and Bobby Darin’s Dream Lover.
Cliff does put one foot into the future with the opus though - with the spanking new track, One More Sunny Day.
“It was like being back in the 50s with The Shadows in Studio 2 at Abbey Road,” Cliff said about working on the album, “...Only it wasn’t The Shadows, and it wasn’t Studio 2 and it wasn’t the 50s.
“I was in Nashville, Tennessee at the Blackbird Studio with five great Nashville musicians and we were recording...live.”
Speaking about his memories of the dawning of the Rock ‘N’ Roll era, Cliff added: “That whole period was new and unbelievably exciting, and to think I was there! “Saving up my pocket money for weeks so that I could buy Elvis’ first album - borrowing someone else’s collection of Little Richard and skipping school so as to get seats to see Bill Haley play live.”
