THE newly re-named Creed Street Arts Centre (known by us oldies as Madcap Theatre) is currently hosting the first in a series of open art shows.
It’s a real mish-mash of styles and types, featuring works by award-winning solo artists, disabled creatives, participants from adult continuing education courses and various MK based art groups.
Enjoying the rich canvas of creativity that Milton Keynes has to offer is free, simply pop to the Wolverton venue before February 16 and view the exhibition, called Show 1.0.
> On Saturday the venue will host a flea market from 10am.
> IF we are snow free this weekend, why not pull on your warm togs and go give those lungs and legs a work out with another Parks and Run session?
Sunday’s circulatory boost will set off from Linford Manor Park at 10am, and taking part in the Parks Trust organised bash is free.
> LOOKING ahead to next Thursday (Feb 7) and the Women’s Walking Network will be making tracks too, albeit at a slower pace.
Once more meeting in Great Linford, it costs one pound to take part from 10am.
If you want more details, call the Trust on MK 233600.
> CONTEMPORARY jazz five-piece Jucamaya are this month’s guests at Olney Jazz Club on Tuesday evening.
Saxophone, piano, trombone, double bass and drums dance around each other, and do musical tango for aurative delight.
Jucamaya are a fairly regular proposition at jazz spots in the Midlands, with people tipping their ears to the the melodic improvisations on original work, and standards.
Some of their sound is decidedly Latin-edged, but we are assured they can swing just as well as any other band too!
Enthusiasm, musicianship and commitment spills over during their performances.
All you need do is take a seat at The Carlton House Club and enjoy.
Tickets are on sale at £9 and £7. For tickets, call 01234 711348.
>THE time has come to Sing for Joy again, with the return of the harmonious gathering at the Chrysalis Theatre in Willen.
Tonight’s first session of the year will pick right up where things left off before Christmas – with lots of seasonal, international, folk, pop songs and rounds.
You aren’t obliged to, but can take along a song to teach the other participants.
Pop along to the lower level of the Chrysalis in time for the 7.30pm start.
“This really is an occasion for a spontaneous sharing of joyful sound making!” says organiser Joan Harris.
