Nashville-based husband and wife team Shirock have announced an October release for their debut album, Everything Burns.
The long player is preceded by the current single Still Young.
Sammy Jones set Pap Shirock the Cue & Play challenge...
Tell us about the first record you bought or downloaded
The first record (CD at the time) that I bought was Radiohead’s The Bends.
I had just seen the movie Romeo & Juliet (directed by Baz Luhrmann) in the theatre, and when I heard the song Talk Show Host I was immediately in love with Thom Yorke’s vocals.
Went right out and bought the record
An album you can’t live without - and why
I think I’d actually have to say that first record, Radiohead’s The Bends.
I have so many incredible memories tied to that record...I grew up to it.
And when I listen to it, it brings all those emotions flooding back...but it also inspires new feelings to.
To me, it’s timeless, yet transportive.
Most embarrassing record in your collection
Boyz II Men - Legacy. We’re really not THAT embarrassed though.
Your favourite cheesy disc
Might be considered kind of cheesy to some, but we can love some George Michael...he has some great melodies. Probably his album Faith.
An album you wish you’d bought, but didn’t
Have never bought any of Led Zeppelin’s albums, we’ve only heard their music from friends, but it’s definitely time to buy an album
What about your favourite artist of all time? What is the attraction?
It would probably have to be Peter Gabriel. He has such an incredible and unique voice, and has written some of our favourite melodies and lyrics.
Add to that, he has some of the best production on his records that we’ve ever heard.
If we could grant you a wish to meet one musician or band, who would it be and why?
What question would you ask them?
It would be incredible to meet Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr and be able to ask them about their experiences in The Beatles...maybe the question would be something like ‘What was it like being a part of the formative years of modern rock and pop music, and how do you continue to stay inspired when you’ve already written music that will pretty much influences every future pop musician?’
Name a song that never fails to pick you up
Dreams by The Cranberries
And one that chills you out
The Big Ship by Brian Eno
What was the first gig that you attended
Our Lady Peace at the Newport Music Hall in Columbus, OH
Tell us about your favourite record shop or online store, and what the appeal is
Grimey’s New & Preloved Music - There’s a lot to love about this Nashville record shop: The owners are true music lovers, very passionate about carrying a great selection of artists and bringing them in for exclusive performances.
They also have a venue below the shop, and it’s one of the best consistent places in town to hear great music.
You can step into the shoes of your musical idol for 24 hours. Who do you choose and what would you do?
I’m not sure if 24 hours in the shoes of some of our musical idols would really be that crazy, but we do love Jay Z, and I’m sure that would be an interesting 24 hours - especially if we could choose to be having a day off and travelling somewhere beautiful and just ballin’.
Is there a new or undiscovered artist you think we need to hear? Spill the beans.
Mikky Ekko. He is a friend of ours from Nashville, and he’s an incredibly talented artist and writer.
He wrote one of Rihanna’s newest singles, Stay, and is the dual lead vocal on the track with her - you may also have caught him performing the song with Rihanna on the Grammy’s this year, in our opinions, one of the best performances on the night.
You can banish one artist to the bargain bin. Who do you choose?
