Two more chefs have been revealed in the race to be named Milton Keynes Chef of the Year – including the brother of last year’s winner.

Sean Austin, who works at The Black Horse in Woburn, and The Birch at Woburn’s Daniel Treadwell will compete in the event, which is part of Milton Keynes Food Awards.

They will take on Silk Road’s Saj Khan, Abdul Salam from Calcutta Brasserie and Hilton Milton Keynes’ Sous Chef, Zbynek Zatloukal,

The food awards, backed by the Citizen, aim to honour the best restaurants, pubs, hotels, chefs and gyms in MK. The Chef of the Year contest will be decided by a cook-off at Milton Keynes College.

Sean, whose brother Mark won last year, said he has been a cook for ‘as long as I can remember,’ specialising in modern English food. He won the 2006 East of England Young Chefs Challenge and was a regional finalist (East Anglia) in the Future Chef Awards 2007.

Daniel works as a junior sous chef at The Birch, having qualified at Milton Keynes College. He has previously worked as a commis chef at Raymond Blanc’s Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons.

Food awards judge and head chef at Paris House, Phil Fanning, said: “I am proud to be involved with the awards as it honors the hard work and dedication of my peers within an industry that I love.

“I was very impressed with the quality of last years contestants and look forward to seeing what Milton Keynes has to offer this year.”
