But Winkelman won't be rushed into a decision.
MK Dons chairman Pete Winkelman says he "hasn't a clue" who the next manager of the club will be.

For the third summer in succession the Dons chairman is being forced to search for a new manager, and admits despite a huge amount of interest in the role, he has no idea who will be in charge next season.

"I genuinely today don't have a clue who the manager will be, there is no shortlist," he said.

"We are only today hearing from all the people who want to throw their hat in the ring."

"I don't want to go and interview 10 people, although there probably are at least 10 people worth the chance.

"What I am going to do is try and imagine who it might be standing at the side of the pitch next season."

Pete refused to be drawn on names, but early front-runners for the job include Scunthorpe's Nigel Adkins, Southend's Steve Tilson, former Leicester City manager Ian Holloway and the former Derby manager Billy Davies.

But a host of others including Richard Money, Mike Newell and Nigel Clough have all been mentioned.

Around 40 managers have put themselves forward for the job and although Winkelman says a high-profile manager is not at the top of his agenda, one who can encourage passing football is.

"Football is about the way you win and the quick tempo football that we played, with lots of quick passing and movement being something that has started to fill the stadium.

"And we don't want to lose that winning habit so getting that magical combination right is essential."

"We won't necessarily go high profile. They've got to have something that they can believe in and that will work.

"People tell me 'you've got to have stability', but it is about success, obviously if you can have success and a manager around to enjoy that success then brilliant.

"But it is about winning and being successful and we have done that with two managers over the last two years."
