Former Wolves man helps see off his old boys
Midfield hardman Stephen Gleeson believes he has got the perfect man to learn his trade from in the form of manager Paul Ince.

The 20-year-old ex-Wolves man said he had been itching to get working with the former Manchester United and England midfielder after hearing of his appointment back at Dons. And the pearls of wisdom he has imparted on him haven't disappointed.

"I worked with him when he was a player at Wolves and his knowledge was there for all to see – it's just brilliant," said Gleeson.

"Since we've come back form Portugal I had been dying to get on the training pitch with him to see what he is like as a manager and all the signs are looking great. Hopefully during this season I can learn a lot from him because he was brilliant in his day."

The Republic of Ireland international was speaking after beating his old team 1-0.

Jermaine Easter grabbed the winner late in the first half as his relentless running caught out England U21 man Richard Stearman, with the new signing then smashing the ball past Wayne Hennessey – reward for an impressive home debut by the Welshman

Dons for the most part held their own over 90 minutes against the Premier League side. Their main threat was Sylvan Ebanks-Blake who had several efforts well saved by Gueret.

But as time went on and the big striker was subbed, Dons looked comfortable and closed out the game well. And Gleeson was happy to get one over on his old mates.

"You can't read too much into pre-season matches but obviously the fans will go away saying we beat a Premier League side and to be fair it is good to get one over on my old club.

"It was good to see everyone, I haven't seen anyone since I signed for Dons. It has been so hectic I haven't even gone back there to get my stuff, it has been that busy."

Gleeson says his new side are starting to get into their stride as they prepare for the season opener against Hartlepool at stadium:mk on August 8.

"I think we are peaking at the right time," he said. "The last two games were just about fitness, I know people look at the result but it was just about fitness.

"Tonight I thought the fitness was good and the performance was great too. So hopefully Northampton will be the same and then we will be ready for Hartlepool."

Dons entertain the Cobblers on Saturday in their final warm-up fixture.
