Superb Dons secure first away win
A rampant performance from Roberto Di Matteo's side saw them blow away Huddersfield.
First half goals from Jude Stirling and Peter Leven gave the Dons the edge at the break, with Sam Baldock scoring his first league goal in the second half to make things comfortable as Dons out-classed their fancied opponents.
And in fact it could have been more with Aaron Wilbraham thundering the bar, Mark Wright hitting the post and Baldock having a close range effort saved.
The only sour note was the defensive howler from Carl Regan that allowed Gary Roberts to get a consolation.
All the talk before the game was about the Terriers potent attacking threat of Liam Dickinson and Danny Cadameteri, but Dons superb defence started as they meant to carry on and didn't give them a sniff from the start.
Di Matteo's men then looked to catch them on the counter-attack and did so with great effect, scoring on their first attack on 16 minutes.
Dons earned a corner and Stirling rose superbly to head Mark Wright's cross into the bottom right hand corner.
It eased the visitor's nerves and Huddersfield didn't threaten for the rest of the half, with Dons adding a second seven minutes before the break.
A superb counter attack saw the Dons break four on one against the Terriers, Leven spreading the ball out wide for Wright, who played the ball back to the Scotsman to finish superbly with his left foot - t
the midfielder's first of his Dons career.
The home side made their intentions clear in the second half when they brought on local legend Andy Booth.
They immediately started to launch the ball forward and Willy Gueret had to be on guard to make a superb save from a dangerous glancing header from the big man.
But Dons were controlling possession well and Baldock had a superb chance to put Dons 3-0 ahead before he did eventually score.
A long ball found the Milton Keynes-born striker thanks to Huddersfield's sleeping defence and he tucked the ball under Matt Glennon.
It was game over from there as Dons passed the ball with ease.
But in the closing stages Regan somehow completely missed Kiegan Parker's cross and allowed Roberts to shoot past the helpless Gueret.
Even so, it was a good day at the office for Di Matteo, who had his name sung by the fans in earnest for the first time.
