More than 130 people took part in a glorious outdoor walk last week to mark 10 years of a scheme which has helped saved people’s lives.

Walking for Health, run by the Ramblers and Macmillan Cancer Support, is a nationwide movement dedicated to improving the nation’s health through walking.

The programme has been embraced locally by the Sports Development team at Milton Keynes Council, which has just celebrated 10 years of Milton Keynes Health Walks, as well as the scheme gaining official accreditation.

More than 130 volunteers, walkers and walk leaders attended the event to enjoy a two-mile walk in the fine weather at Windmill Hill Golf Club.

Co-ordinator Lisa Carvell said: “Walking is now well recognised as a key form of exercise with a tremendous range of benefits, which can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

“In Milton Keynes we are very lucky that we have a variety of walks, in different settings, rural, urban, or a mix of both.”
