THE man who trebled sales of Mercedes-Benz cars in the UK has become the new chairman of Milton Keynes Hospital.

Dr Walter Greaves has been appointed to the board of directors of the NHS foundation trust.

An engineer, Dr Greaves has worked for Ford and Mercedes-Benz as well as being a former chairman of Brunel University Council. He was awarded an Honorary D
octorate of Business in 2005 for his contribution there.

He lives in the area and been active in voluntary work in the church, higher and further education, racial equality and grant-awarding bodies.
"I'm very pleased to to be joining this very successful and steadily improving NHS Foundation Trust at an early stage in its development to help shape its future," he said.

"Health is the single most important factor in anyone's life and I look forward to working to help deliver first-class services for both patients and staff."

Chief executive Jill Rodney said she was absolutely delighted to welcome him to the trust while outgoing chairman Mike Rowlands said the trust was now looking to develop its longer-term strategic direction.

Also appointed are non-executive directors Graham Anderson, a chartered surveyor, and former deputy director of the CBI, and business adviser, auditor and chartered accountant David Knapman.
