Guide Dog user Lynda Cantor has defended her faithful canine companion Spike after web reports he led her into the River Great Ouse!
The pair were walking with a friend near Millfield Flats, Stony Stratford, on Wednesday morning (May 14) when three-year-old black labrador Spike fell in and was trapped in mud.

Her friend could not help following an operation and so 66-year-old Lynda jumped in to hold Spike's head above water until firefighters arrived.

A BBC website report said Spike led her into the river and the story attracted hundreds of hits.

"But he was off duty and out of harness when he fell in.

"He doesn't even like the water," she said.
