MP salutes codebreaker
Minister for Equality Harriet Harman has saluted Bletchley Park on its celebration of the life of Word War 11 codebreaker Alan Turing.
She was replying to a question in the Commons by Milton Keynes South West MP Dr Phyllis Starkey following the Park's marking of Lesbian,Gay, Bisexual and Transgender history month with a day commemorating Turing.
She asked Ms Harman, who is also Leader of the House, if she would congratulate the Park on the event which she said "served as a reminder of the unacceptability of the sort of homophobic laws and prejudices that pushed Alan Turing to his suicide in the 1950s."
The Minister congratulated the Park on its commemoration.
She said: "His work, and his commitment, is taken forward by us in Government, because our Equality Bill, which passed through the House of Lords last night, will further strengthen and protect people against discrimination and homophobia."
