A city barn is set to be sold at auction and could raise as much as £550,000.

Manor Farm Barn, in Shenley Church End, will be auctioned on December 7 by Colliers CRE.

It came into public ownership because it lies between the boundaries of the area covered by the Milton Keynes New Town Designation Order 1967.

The new town development made the compulsory purchase and the surrounding fields were heavily developed on. The 15th century barn however, was left to rot.

The barn is currently owned by expansion board Milton Keynes Partnership which is now hoping the property, originally acquired by Milton Keynes Development Corporation, is looked after and developed properly through new owners.

The Grade II listed building will now be sold along with half an acre of land and two new brick garages.

Another two building plots in the same area each sold for around £550,000 five years ago and it is thought that Manor Farm Barn could well be sold for a similar price, although it is expected the figure will be nearer £400,000.

Colliers CRE auctioneer, Simon Riggall, said: "The barn doesn't have a guide price which makes it a perfect site for auction.

"It all depends on the buyer. You could have someone with modest plans for the refurbishment who buys it for £200,000 to £250,000, or someone with big plans who buys it for double that."
