MOTORISTS entering the city from the north are facing gridlock at rush hour.
With the amount of roadworks mounting around M1 Junction 14 it is becoming increasingly difficult for people to get in and out of Milton Keynes.
The latest closure around Jct 14 is the A5130, which is shut for 18 weeks while Anglia Water lays pipe
s for 4,000 new homes that are being built.
That is on top of the work at Pineham and Fox Milne Roundabouts for road re-surfacing.
But all the work in the area has put added strain on the A5, which has been backed up for miles around Old Stratford at rush hour.
Motorists have been using the road as an alternative, but it is struggling to cope.
Things have been made worse in the evenings with A5 northbound completely closing from 7pm-7am.
This is to carry out essential concrete repairs to the carriageway. Repairs are also to be made to five bridges in between Old Stratford and the A422 Monks Way.
Meanwhile the work on the A5130 started last week and will last until August.
The half-million pound project will involve laying 2.2 kilometres of new water mains along Newport Road. The road will be closed southbound, with a one-way traffic system in place, for the duration of the work.
Diversions have been agreed with the local highways department and will be well signposted.
Other works still taking place around the city are at the Abbey Hill Roundabout, and on the V4 opposite The Bowl.
Meanwhile there is some relief for motorists with Groveway reopening last week, over six months after it was closed for essential bridge repairs.
