Family praises hospital treatment that gave mum extra four years of life
A woman given four weeks to live after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of liver cancer defied all oddsto live for an extra FOUR years.
And the grateful family of Sally Clough have heaped the highest praise on staff atMilton Keynes Hospital
for the first-class treatment they say kept her alive.
Sally, a former florist who lived in Stoke Goldington, died earlier this month at the age of 69.
Daughter Tina Periclis said: "Mum was rushed into hospital in 2005 with very aggressive liver cancer.
"She was given a maximum of four weeks to live if shedidn't have immediatetreatment.
"We felt we had to give it a go and she started to very slowly respond to chemotherapy."
Full of hope, the family researched getting further treatments abroad.
But they eventually found a new pioneering technique offered at Hammersmith Hospital.
Sally responded well to the treatment but surgey to remove the tumour was deemed too risky.
Despite the setback, Sally battled the disease thanks to the tireless support of Dr Jill Stewart and her team at
Milton Keynes Hospital, who 'gave Sally an extra four years to live'.
Tina added: "Mum was one of the first people to have the procedure.
"Praise has to go to Milton Keynes PCT, who fought so hard and managed to gain all the funding for the countless treatments she had.
"People constantly moan about the hospital but I can't speak highly enough of everyone there.
"They were fantastic and the most important thing is that mum had a real good quality of life until the last few weeks."
Wedgwood Swepston, head of cancer services at Milton Keynes Hospital, also praised the work of Dr Stewart.
He said: "We are very pleased that the care given by cancer specialist Dr Jill Stewart is so well recognised by the family.
"Like many of our staff, Dr Stewart is totally committed to her role and improving the patient experience."
