A £1.8 million project to improve facilities at the Stephenson Academy in Stantonbury has begun.
The academy, which opened in April following the closure of The Gatehouse School, is undergoing work to transform the building and create new teaching spaces.
The former residential block will be transformed into specialist teaching facilities including music, drama, a construction workroom and general teaching. The dining hall will be extended, temporary classrooms will be removed and general teaching area improved.
A playground and basketball court will be created, the entrance remodelled and additional parking for staff provided.
The Academy’s newest student dug the first piece of turf to kick off the project, due to be completed in January. The works are being managed by Milton Keynes Council and carried out by Borras Construction.
