THE future of the Agora Centre in Wolverton is once again up in the air after Milton Keynes Council agreed to carry out a Compulsary Purchase Order, but only ‘if necessary.’

The decision, made at last Tuesday’s Extraordinary Cabinet meeting, has come as a result of Wolverton’s Steering Group, which is currently leading the charge to rejuvinate their town centre.

Working with the Agora’s owners, the steering group will try and find a developer to take over the facility, otherwise the council will step in and take up their CPO.

Last month, a petition boasting more than 400 signatures was presented to Milton Keynes Council from residents in Wolverton, urging them to agree to the Compulsary Purchase Order.

Marie Osborne, convener for the Wolverton Steering Group said: “The counci’s decision is a step forward for Wolverton as a whole.

“We are keen to help the traders in the Agora find an alternative place to operate.”
