South Central Ambulance Service NHS Trust (SCAS) has been voted Fleet Safety Champion of the Year at the recent Fleet News 2011 Fleet Van Awards.

Now in their fourth year, the Fleet Van Awards have become THE benchmark awards for the light commercial vehicle industry, with trophies for manufacturers, suppliers and fleet operators.

Rick Stillman, Head of Fleet received the award on behalf of SCAS at a prestigious awards ceremony in London on December 7 last year where the citation read: ‘South Central Ambulance Service, or SCAS as it’s known internally, has recently been awarded Van Excellence status by the Freight Transport Association. Its focus on safety is paramount with intensive training and a vehicle maintenance programme that far exceeds any manufacturer requirement. SCAS has the best safety record of any ambulance fleet in the country and deservedly takes the safety champion award in the public sector.’

Following a rigorous audit in August 2011 SCAS achieved Van Excellence Accreditation from the Freight Transport Association. At that time only 11 other operators in the UK had achieved this accreditation.

Rick Stillman, Head of Fleet for SCAS said: “The Fleet Safety Champion of the Year Award is a reflection of the quality of our policies and the dedication and work done by a number of departments and individuals within SCAS who have worked together with me towards achieving Van Excellence accreditation. I would like to express my thanks to all involved.”
