Bake off for Official Dish of MK is piece of cake

Master bakers of the future proved they can have their cake and eat it after being invited to help create the Official Dish of MK.

The initiative to come up with dishes to best represent Milton Keynes, was launched by The Hungry Horse restaurant in Broughton.

Mark Fitzsimon, general manager, decided to draft in the help of the youngsters to create city-themed cupcakes.

He said: “I’m too old to be creative, so I knew it would be a good idea to get the local kids in. Everyone loves a cupcake!”

The children, pupils of Broughton Lower School, enjoyed an afternoon of fun and baking, and the results of their handiwork will be on sale at the Hungry Horse over the next month in aid of charities including MK Food Bank, Willen Hospice and Macmillan.

Thanks go to The Cake Box MK which helped with the children’s baking.

Since March, pubs and restaurants all over the city have been whipping up distinctive dishes, from roundabout pizza to cow pie.
