A city woman is part of a team looking to run 68 miles in two days to raise money for CLIC Sargent.

Santander employee Jennifer Sangster, is heading a team of eight fundraisers raising money for the bank’s Charity of the Year.

They will complete the challenge over two days, with some running and some cycling 34 miles from Santander House in Milton Keynes to CLIC Sargent’s head office in Headington, Oxford, on July 2, before making the return journey the next day.

Jennifer is undertaking the 68 Mile Challenge as it reflects the average daily distance a parent has to travel to be with their child when they are being treated for cancer in hospital.

She will be joined by four other Santander employees, as well as four members of city running group, David Lloyd Redway Runners, who will also be supporting her along the route.

Jennifer and her team hope to raise over £1,000 for the charity, funds which will help ensure that children and young people with cancer, along with their families, continue to receive care and support when they need it most.

She said: “Having just completed the London and Milton Keynes Marathons within two weeks of each other, I’m really looking forward to this next challenge. I’ve never run more than 26.2 miles in one go but I couldn’t think of a better cause and a better bunch of people to do it with. Let’s just hope the weather is kind to us.”

Jonathan Elliott, Santander’s Community Manager, commented: “For many, a marathon represents the peak of human endurance, so we are delighted to see so many employees willing to put their endurance to the limit by running and cycling more than twice that distance over the course of the challenge. The enthusiasm and commitment being shown by Jennifer and her team is fantastic and we hope to raise even more funds and awareness for this great cause throughout the year.”
