A CITY man who claimed benefit which he wasn’t entitled to has been ordered to do 100 hours unpaid work.

Ricardo Ribeiro, 38, of Milton Drive, Newport Pagnell appeared before Milton Keynes magistrates court on Friday, May 11.

He was sentenced to a 12 month Community Order comprising of 100 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay full costs of £534.40, after admitting three counts of dishonestly making false statements under Social Security legislation.

The court heard that he had failed to mention that his wife had been working since 2006, when he was claiming Housing & Council Tax Benefit, causing an overpayment of over £7000, which he has already started repaying.

A council benefit investigation spokesman said: “People must let us know if they have any change in their home or working circumstances, as there is a very good chance it will affect their benefits.”
