VETERAN left-wing politician Tony Benn is set to top the bill at a city rally opposing cuts to public services.
The event, part of a national week of action against government spending cuts, will take place at the Jury’s Inn Hotel in Midsummer Boulevard on Friday, February 18.
It has been organised by MK Coalition of Resistance (MKCoR) and comes ahead of Milton Keynes Council’s budget-setting meeting on Tuesday, February 22.
Mr Benn, currently president of the national Coalition of Resistance, has been a stalwart of the Labour party and a darling of the left.
Other speakers will include CWU eastern regional secretary Paul Moffat, ASLEF district organiser Mick Whelan and Dot Gibson from the National Pensioners Forum.
MKCoR chairman Anita de Klerk said: “This government is lying to me and to you when they say that these cuts are in the nations best interests.
“We ask MK Council to develop programmes which create jobs instead of cutting jobs and protect the services we have.”
