TRADING Standards officers have issued a warning about scam emails sent by computer hackers posing as a friend or family member.
The emails are headed ‘I need you help’ or ‘I’m in trouble’ – much to the alarm of the recipient.
Sometimes they ask for a loan of more than £1,000, said Buckinghamshire Trading Standards spokesman Martin Phillips.
He said: “If you receive an email of this nature we advise you to establish if your friend or family member really is in need of help.
“If it’s you email account that has been hacked in this way, contact your service provider who will be able to restore your email address for you.”
