A Bletchley business has set a challenge to raise £25,000 this year for the UK’s leading cancer charity for children, young people and their families.
Staff from Multitruck Components Limited hope to give CLIC Sargent a large donation by joining in with Wig Wednesday when thousands of people across the UK will be donning wigs to show support for children and young people with cancer, many of whom lose their hair during treatment.
Managing Director, Peter Nunn has already run the Virgin London Marathon this year for the charity and will join staff to take their activity to hair raising heights with their own fundraising on the May 21.
Peter said: “We’re all really excited to show off some fabulous wigs and raise as much money as possible for CLIC Sargent.
“Wig Wednesday is a great campaign which gets everybody together having some fun with wigs while supporting children and young people with cancer.”
The staff, children and families will also be taking part in the Bletchley Carnival Parade on the June 7 dressed up with a Pink Panther mascot and music to help raise awareness of the charity in the area.
Peter added: “I’m really proud to be doing my bit to help the charity. Having seen the difference CLIC Sargent makes to their lives of children and young people with cancer and their families.
“It reduces the stress and isolation, which children and young people particularly feel, and helps everyone make sense of a cancer diagnosis and cope with the emotional impact on their everyday lives.”
In 2013, CLIC Sargent provided support to 68 Buckinghamshire families through health and social care professionals including nurses, social workers and youth workers, and also provided financial help to meet extra costs, free accommodation close to specialist cancer centres for families and holidays in the UK.
CLIC Sargent Community Fundraising Manager Ben Herbert said: “Every day ten children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer and CLIC Sargent is here to provide vital support from diagnosis onwards.
“We are absolutely thrilled that Multitruck has pledged this wonderful contribution. We really appreciate the hard work and generosity that will go in to raising the pounds – every penny raised will help provide vital support for children and young people with cancer, and their families. We can’t wait for Wig Wednesday.”
