Children at Knowles Primary School had an unexpected day off today after the school flooded.

A faulty pipe connection caused water to gush from a loft space into the school office, threatening to bringing down the ceiling.

School bosses are now recruiting contractors to repair the damage as soon as possible and hope to be open tomorrow (Wednesday).

Head Gi Sierant said: “The council have been very supportive and told us to get on with the repairs. We will need to take the ceiling down in the officer before it falls down... We also need to make sure that all doors are secure and get the telephones etc working.

“The children’s health and safety would be compromised at present but we are working hard to make it safe for them to return to school as soon as possible.”
