Patients on the children’s ward at Milton Keynes Hospital had a real treat this week when new books were delivered to the ward, following a fundraising initiative.
The new books will be used to help distract patients during procedures and enable parents and carers to read bedtime stories.
Local businesses and individuals pledged money to purchase books for young patients through a Community Book Pledge. The scheme was coordinated by Michelle Smith of Usborne Books at Home and School.
Laura Clarke, play assistant on the children’s ward, said: “The new books are going to make a lovely addition to the children’s ward and will go a long way to enhancing the experience of patients staying on the ward. I am thrilled that the charity was involved with this project and we look forward to working with Michelle in the future.”
Michelle, of Usborne Books, added: “I am really pleased I was able to provide these books to the children’s ward, it will help make a difference to patients and their families. The Community Book Pledge was a real success and it was fantastic to see the local community get behind the idea and dig deep.”
