A city youngster is set to become a star of the small screen after being chosen to appear in Debenhams’ Christmas advert due to air this weekend.
Six-year-old Benji Bateman was chosen from hundreds of entries to star in the festive campaign ‘Found It’ after being nominated by his proud uncle Simon.
Gemma Newby, Benji’s mother, said: “We are so proud of Benji’s achievement, being featured in the Debenhams’ Christmas TV campaign.
“I thought he would be a little camera shy at first but he impressed us all by getting into character straight away.
“We will have the whole family gathered around the TV this weekend to watch Benji’s debut, it’s all very exciting.”
The advert is filmed from a child’s perspective and follows the excitement of every child’s dream – staying overnight in a department store at Christmas.
It features a group of children as they search a department store for the perfect gift.
Adverts will also be posted to YouTube and Facebook throughout the Christmas period. Richard Cristofoli, a spokesman for Debenhams, said: “Benji was selected as our winner as he gave a fantastic performance and worked extremely well with the other children in the advert. We’re extremely excited.”
