Volkswagen Financial Services broke ground at their new site with help from special guests this week.
The Mayor of Milton Keynes, Councillor Brian White, and David Hill, Chief Executive of Milton Keynes Council, attended a ‘breaking ground’ ceremony at a redevelopment site in Tongwell on Wednesday to celebrate the start of the build of new, state-of-the-art offices.
The new building is expected to be completed in late 2014 with a contemporary design that promises to be quite a landmark. It represents a significant investment in the future of Milton Keynes by VWFS as it plans to provide enough space for its growth over the next 20 years.
Graham Wheeler, Managing Director of Volkswagen Financial Services, said: “Our move to these new offices will allow us to remain close to our sister company, The Volkswagen Group in Yeomans Drive, and provide enough space for our future growth plans. It also secures the future of VWFS as a major contributor to the economy of Milton Keynes.”
The new head office building will provide 100,000 sq ft of space over four floors. Internally, it will include flexible working spaces, a theatre-style conference centre and a staff restaurant and coffee shop.
Councillor David Hopkins, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Economic Development and Enterprise for Milton Keynes Council, said: “Milton Keynes continues to be a dynamic place to do business and we welcome the investment and trust that Volkswagen Financial Services is placing in the city and its highly skilled workforce. We are sure that Volkswagen Financial Services will go from strength to strength from their new state of the art premises.”
Barnaby Kelham, CEO of UK & European Investments which owns the site, said: “We are delighted to welcome Volkswagen Financial Services to Delaware Drive and are pleased that construction is underway. This is an important regional redevelopment scheme that will bring a significant landmark building to Milton Keynes and further help the local economy prosper. We look forward to following the progress of the construction and seeing the vision of the new head office turn into reality.”
