Budgens in Stony Stratford has become one of the first retail stores to stock lime melons in the UK.

The melons which are grown in Spain, have the texture and appearance of a cantaloupe melon coupled with a tangy citrus flavour of lime. Budgens of Stony Stratford is now stocking the new fruit which has been developed from a new seed variety, and due to a short season, it will only be available for approximately three weeks.

Kash Jaffar, who owns the Budgens store in Stony Stratford said: “I’m very excited to offer my customers the chance to try lime melon for the first time; I’ve tasted it myself and the flavour is far more intense than a regular melon, with a definite citrus tang. It’s definitely unusual.”

Lime melons are now available in store priced at £1.49 each.
