300 applied for 65 new jobs as Waitrose fixes date of big move

The new Waitrose at Oakgrove, Chaffron Way, will be 54 per cent bigger than the space the company is leaving in the Food Centre.
Waitrose upgraded proposals from a 25 per cent expansion and has now confirmed an opening date of May 9 for the new store’s opening.
The company’s last day of trading after 25 years at the Food Centre in Midsummer Boulevard, Central Milton Keynes will be May 8.
When the new store opens ot will have all 169 existing employees, plus 65 more who have been recruited. The jobs at the new store, which is three roundabouts away from the old one, attracted 300 applicants.
Paul Taylor, branch manager at Waitrose Milton Keynes and the new shop at Milton Keynes Oakgrove said: “Firstly I’d really like to thank our customers for shopping with us at Midsummer Boulevard. We are really excited to be moving to the new shop and I’m really excited that we’ll be able to combine the latest Waitrose offer with the wealth of Waitrose experience and skills our Partners have developed.”
The Oakgrove Waitrose will be part of the neighbourhood centre in the scheme which includes around 1,000 new homes retail and leisure units as well large areas of new parkland and ultimately a primary school and nursery.
