An outdoor store company has invested £1.5million in developing a former Habitat unit in Milton Keynes.
The investment by GO Outdoors in Central Retail Park, Patriot Drive, Rooksley, has created more than 40 new jobs.
Store manager, David Smith, said: “We already have a neighbouring store in Bedford, so we’re familiar with the passion for outdoor activities in the region. Milton Keynes will be special. It’s a wonderful region for camping, hiking, cycling and enjoying stunning outdoor areas and lakes with a thriving network cycle redways and heritage trails.
“It’s that enthusiasm for outdoor pursuits plus the support of the council, local people and organisations like Duke of Edinburgh Awards and the Scouts that has spurred us on to establish a GO Outdoors store that Milton Keynes will be proud of.”
The 40,000 sq-ft store is due to open on Monday, April 1. It will offer more than 20,000 outdoor product lines across 13 departments. It will also operate a reserve and collect service for online shoppers.
As far as layouts go, the Milton Keynes store will see customers entering through a walk through on a hand-made timber path.
It will also feature a six metre high indoor climbing wall and a range of different walking surfaces.
As well as interactive attractions, the store will feature the county’s largest tent display with more than 40 tents pitched and on display across two tent fields.
