Argos Toy Exchange was was kicked off at the Argos HQ in Milton Keynes

A national campaign to get people to donate unwanted toys to raise money for needy people was launched in Milton Keynes.

The Argos Toy Exchange has seen the retailer, based in Avebury Boulevard, Central Milton Keynes, join forces with children’s charity Barnardo’s.

Donation stations are in operation at around 740 Argos stores and 500 Barnardo’s shops where people can drop off their unwanted toys.

The toys could be re-sold in Barnardo’s shops to help raise money and people who donate will get a £5 Argos voucher towards the cost of new goods if they spend a certain amount.

Gerard Cousins, Barnardo’s director of retail said: “We are very excited about this innovative project which gives children and their parents the opportunity to exchange the old for the new whilst helping some of the most disadvantaged children and families.

“Christmas can be a difficult time for many, particularly those living in poverty and every penny raised through the sale of these pre-loved toys in Barnardo’s stores will go directly toward helping those in greatest need.”

Research by Argos shows there are 474 million un-played with toys in homes but 3.6 million children living below the poverty line in the UK.

Donations will be accepted at stores until Tuesday November 27.
