A food store in Wolverton finished top of the area’s fundraising charts in the company’s efforts to raise as much as possible for Carers Trust.
The Co-operative food store, in The Agora Centre raised almost £2,700 by organising a range of events and collections throughout the year, and when all the cash was counted, the store was revealed to be the highest earner in the area.
Carers Trust is the UK’s largest charity for carers. It provides desperately needed breaks, information, advice, support and services for the nation’s hidden army of unpaid young adult carers.
The community-based retailer took on the challenge to raise money for Carers Trust after it was selected as The Co-operative’s Charity of the Year for 2013.
The Co-operative Group – which operates almost 2,800 community food stores as well as Funeralcare, Pharmacy, Legal Services, online electrical and General Insurance - saw its colleagues, customers and members raise a total of £6million during the fundraising partnership with Carers Trust.
The money will allow Carers Trust to provide desperately needed support and services for young adult carers - an estimated 500,000 14-25 year-olds in the UK care for a family member or friend who cannot cope without their support.
