England’s brave bid to win the 2014 World Cup may have been brought to a premature end - but that hasn’t deterred football-loving punters at the bookmakers.

80% of bets placed in the Milton Keynes area on Tuesday’s England-Costa Rica game are backing a Three Lions victory.

This is in spite of England so far losing to both Italy and Uruguay, two nations who have both been beaten by the Latino side.

The figures were provided by bookmakers William Hill.

Milton Keynes fans are only slightly less optimistic than England fans are nationally - across the whole country 84% have been on an England victory.

William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly said: “England have gone out after two passable performances and despite this being a dead rubber, English fans have one last opportunity to get behind the boys.”

What do you think? Will England bounce back to produce one of the finest performances in sporting history, re-writing the record books and having FIFA agree to hand over the trophy to us anyway?

Or will we look alright in patches but ultimately just lose again?
