Caterers do a lap of honour

A Milton Keynes company got into top gear to provide the hospitality at the inaugural Northamptonshire Grand Prix Dinner.

On the eve of the British Grand Prix meeting, at Silverstone this weekend, Wyatt James, of High Street, Stony Stratford, said the dinner had proved to be high pressure entertaining.

More than 240 specially invited guests from the county's finest High Performance Engineering (HPE) companies supplying the motorsport industry were invited to Hanger 1 at Sywell Aerodrome, which was transformed into a resplendent chequered-flag environment for a celebratory dinner on June 30.

Locally-based Formula one teams, circuit engineers, track operators, engine and component builders and world rally teams were greeted on arrival with a classic Pimms and lemonade reception before easing into a themed four course dinner creatively prepared and featuring a miniature trio of summer desserts, plated moments before service.

Jo Hunter-Wyatt, executive chef, said: "Whilst we can't claim to match the speed of our local Grand Prix teams either on the track or in the pits, I'm delighted that we were able to deliver the hospitality equivalent of HPE - High Pressure Entertaining - for this prestigious event!"

Organised by Northamptonshire Enterprise Ltd (NEL), the Grand Prix dinner was held to showcase the technological contribution of the county's HPE companies to the motorsport industry and launch the new High Performance Engineering and Motorsport Strategy for Northamptonshire.

The evening, hosted by BBC One's F1 commentator Jake Humphreys, also included the launch of a series of groundbreaking motorsport initiatives, the announcement of new futuristic motorsport festival planned for August 2011 and a silent auction for the Chancellors Fund at the University of Northampton which raised over 7,000.
