THE Open University Business School will be hosting a free breakfast briefing for Milton Keynes business people in January.

Over breakfast on Thursday, January 12, Professor Brian Smith, will explore what prevents firms from implementing their strategic decisions effectively and suggest steps that can be taken to improve the process.

Prof Smith’s research interests are in the way firms create and implement strategy. His published work covers two areas; how firms make strategic planning work in the real world and how they make sense of the market environment to create market insight. His current research programme is exploring what prevents firms from implementing their strategic decisions effectively.

The session will also include a self-diagnostic exercise so attendees will leave with a clear picture of how they might improve their own organisations. Professor Smith is visiting research fellow at the Open University Business School,

Professor Rebecca Taylor, Dean of The Open University Business School said: “We’re delighted to be sharing our insights into leadership and management with the local business community through our business network and breakfast briefings. Our emphasis is on providing practical ideas and solutions that can be applied straight away in the workplace and contribute to business success”.
