Some of the biggest employers in Milton Keynes joined forces with the city’s two MPs to try to give young people a leg up onto the career ladder.
Argos owner Home Retail Group, banking giant Santander, Railcare, Network Rail, Boeing Defence, hotel, restaurant and coffee giant Whitbread and technology experts Mirus IT Solutions were among the businesses and training providers present at a job fair held at the Buszy in Elder Gate.
Milton Keynes South MP Iain Stewart said: “It is welcome that unemployment figures are falling and that MK is set to see the fastest economic growth on the country, but we must not be complacent. We must ensure that young people in the city not only have jobs, but also have the relevant skills to meet the requirements of businesses relocating to the city.”
Milton Keynes North MP Mark Lancaster added: “With so many big businesses based in the city, Iain and I are determined to make sure young job seekers know where to look and hope the jobs fair will go some way in helping young people come face to face with potential employers.”
The job fair was organised in partnership with Jobcentre Plus, Milton Keynes College, Connexions and Milton Keynes Council.
