A LANDSCAPING company from Fenny Stratford helped create a gold medal winning war zone garden concept at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
Sunnyside Landscapes, in Durrans Court, helped Surrey firm gardenlink recreate a demilitarised zone (DMZ) for designer Jihae Hwang to mark the 60th anniversary of the Korean war.
The garden made use of the plants that thrived in the DMZ and included a barbed wire fence and a watch tower. It also included the remains of warfare, including defensive walls, trenches and charred trees.
The fence was hung with cans and bottles containing letters from separated families and friends to illustrate the sense of longing felt by people kept apart by the conflict.
Robert Stratford, of Sunnyside Landscapes, said: “It was a very good experience for both myself and my business.” He also helped gardenlink create a second exhibit at the Chelsea Flower Show, which ended on May 26.
