Organisations including Home Retail Group, the Open University, Milton Keynes College and Nampak joined in the first networking event for internal communications professionals to be held in the new city.
The get-together at The Swan in Milton Keynes Village yesterday (Thursday) was supported by the locally based Institute of Internal Communication and sponsored by FS1 Recruitment.
Event organisers, Susie May and Richard Cooper, set up the event believing that Milton Keynes is big enough to warrant its own internal communications gathering and nothing else exists for the industy in the area at the moment.
Susie May, event organiser, said: “We set up this Internal Communications event because nothing else existed and most industry events were held in London. With many large organisations, Milton Keynes seemed big enough to have its own networking group. We contacted businesses via our sponsor, FS1 Recruitment, and got in touch with other companies interested in sharing local knowledge.”
The event, attended by all manner of communication professionals, promoted the sharing of information in the business. Internal communication is considered a vital tool for binding an organisation, enhancing employee morale, promoting transparency and reducing attrition.
Adele Evans, director of FS1 Recruitment said: “We like to stay abreast of industry developments and thought this would be a great event to connect with key industry professionals, in order to gain market insight and share knowledge and ideas.”
The next event is set to be in June, any businesses wanting further information on future events should contact Paul Guest, marketing
officer at FS1 Recruitment by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or phoning (01908) 787565.
